Gina Karabinis, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Coordinator of Mental Health and Wellness through Placer County Office of Education (PCOE). Her current work includes assisting in the development, expansion, and coordination of mental health supports for PCOE, County districts, schools, staff, students, and families. In addition, she is responsible for the oversight and supervision of 9 Wellness Centers throughout Placer County and supports school districts in developing the Multi-tier System of Supports (MTSS) and activities at each tier for students and families. She collaborates closely with districts to help integrate mental health supports in schools, reduce stigma related to mental illness, and increase trauma responsive supports in school. She is a certified ASIST trainer, specializing in delivering suicide intervention skills training to community providers. She collaborates with county mental health, probation, social services and law enforcement regarding selected at-risk youth involved with those agencies. She previously worked as a Mental Health Specialist in a high school Wellness Center providing behavioral and emotional counseling to groups and individuals, assisted students in adjusting to school and community life, provided training to school staff on behavioral and mental wellness and served as a liaison to other agencies and students’ parents and families. She has past experience working in Juvenile Dependency Court as a CPS social worker advocating for the welfare of vulnerable children and families, in addition to working on the mental health crisis team.
